General Horary

Astrology is a complete science primarily because of its universal symbolism, integration and application to every area of life.   It’s through its different branches that we use all of its applications.  Just a few of these branches include natal, predictive, compatibility, mundane, rectification, electoral and horary.

Astrology is not psychic work....it’s based on real components of factual data,  however, of all the branches of astrology it’s that of Horary which is most akin to a ‘divination’ process.  Horary is the astrology of answering specific questions.  A Horary chart is one which is drawn for the exact time that a question is asked, similar to the way of throwing the I Ching Yarrow sticks or Runes or a lay of a Tarot deck.  But that’s where the similarity to these other methods of divination ends.  Horary follows precise rules and, like all areas of astrology, takes much dedicated study and practice to grow proficient at it.  Horary relies upon an extensive working knowledge of derived houses and rulerships of planets and signs.

Horary can be applied to a variety of questions...almost anything under the Sun!  The person posing the question is called the Querent and may ask about  love, career, finances, moves, buying, selling, health, pets, relationships, gambling, teams winning, etc. for himself or about others, such as, whether or not “my husband’s father’s friend’s wife should quit her job?”  Pretty tricky looking but a proficient horary astrologer can handle that with no problem!

Choosing the right house in the horary chart is often the problem most astrologers will encounter.  Here’s a quick review of a few of the very basic meanings of the 12 houses.  Of course, using derived houses will assign even more meanings to each of the 12 houses ... too many to include in this article.  The first house of the horary chart is the person who is asking the question.  The second house is any lost or missing item, money, possessions, banks.  The third house is that of brothers, sisters, neighbors, papers, letters, books, phone calls, short distanced travel. The fourth house rules the family, buildings, the home, real estate and the father.  The fifth house rules children, boy or girlfriends sports, theatre, recreation.  The sixth house rules pets, health, employees, tenants, aunts, uncles.  The seventh house is that of spouses, partnerships, business partners, strangers, nieces, nephews.  Surgeons, surgery, inheritances, loans, debts are ruled by the eighth house.  The ninth house rules in-laws, clergy, colleges, higher legal systems, a law suit.  The tenth house rules career, the boss,  the judge, the mother while the eleventh house indicates acquaintances and  clubs.  The twelfth house rules hospitals, churches, asylums, prisons.

Horary can delineate timing of events, distances and compass directions to follow to find lost articles, actual descriptions of locations, people, personalities, appearances and situations.  It offers valuable advice about how to improve a situation and, of course, give a “yes” or “no” answer to the question posed.

So, let’s actually read a Horary chart and show you this incredible  process in action!

One of the most interesting areas of horary is finding lost items so here’s one from my files.  A client phoned desperately asking about her lost diamond earrings, necklace and ring that she found missing about two years ago and was only first phoning me now to help her locate them.  Just two days earlier I had helped her find her lost dog with horary so I think this made her more willing to give it a go again!

The question “ Where is my diamond jewelry?’ was asked to me on January 27, 1997 at 11.25am.

First we have to establish the chart rulers for the question. The first house represents the Querent and the second house signifies the missing jewelry.  Taurus is on the first house cusp so the Querent is ruled by Venus.  Gemini is on the second house so the missing items are ruled by Mercury.  Mercury is applying a conjunction to Venus indicating possible recovery of the items.  Both rulers are in Capricorn in the ninth house.  This indicates the item to be in a south by southwest room along a south wall.  Capricorn denotes a corner of the room or a dark place that is enclosed, dark, messy, or perhaps a furnishing in the room that is old, made of leather or dark materials.  The ninth house indicates a room with lots of books, where legal papers are kept, college materials, or religious/sacred articles are.  Venus squares Neptune indicating  that the item was probably mislaid by the Querent but with the Moon’s last aspect trining Neptune recovery looks probable.  Venus, ruling the Querent, also trines the North Node and conjuncts Jupiter so again recovery is likely.  Mercury and Venus are, however, in a cadent house so the querent would not get the item back for a long time after losing it and the search will have to be done very carefully.   The Moon’s next aspect will be a trine to the Ascendant in the chart (the Querent) which again points to a positive outcome.

I told her to search a room in her home that was upstairs on the South by Southwest direction holding books, religious or college items and look in the corner of the S by SW direction along the S wall.   Check low in that area in an old piece of dark furniture or leather furnishings and look very carefully inside things that might be there in that corner.  I told her that the furnishings would probably be black, brown or deep maroon.  The item appeared to be low to the ground somehow as well.  I told her that she would definitely find the jewelry and the timing showed that it would be recovered within either 8 minutes or 8 hours or 8 days.   She hung up with me saying that she had to go to work but when she got home she’d follow my instructions and look.  She phoned me at 7:15pm that evening exclaiming that she found all three pieces of her beloved, long lost diamond jewelry!!   She said that the room I indicated was her master bedroom. Her dark cherry wood antique Hi Boy dresser sat in that S by SW corner of the room and a bookshelf holding her Shakespeare plays that she had used in college and one religious statute was nearby and adjacent to Hi boy on the other side of the corner was a black leather couch.  She asked me if I had used a spy glass before and had peeked into her house!  I told her this is the beauty of the Horary chart!  She said that she went through the leather couch, looked on the floor and then look through the bookshelf and then through the drawers in the Hi Boy.  She finally found the jewelry in the bottom draw of the dresser inside a little black cup with a lid on it in the far back South by Southwest corner of that drawer just shy of 8 hours later!!  She has absolutely no recollection of putting it there almost 2 years earlier!  She thanked me profusely and I believe now she is a true believer in the science of Horary!!!
